Our Functional Medicine practitioners look for root causes of problems. In other words, we focus on locating what is triggering your symptoms. For example, if you were to sit on a tack, we do not prescribe pain medicine. That would only cover the symptom. We find the tack and remove it. Functional medicine is not band-aid medicine, and it is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It is personalized medicine.
When you work with us, our first step is to compile a comprehensive patient history. Afterward, we perform specific and targeted testing as we assess for the triggers of autoimmune disorders. A variety of things can trigger autoimmunity: Environmental toxins, such as heavy metals, previous emotional or physical trauma that hasn’t been dealt with appropriately, mold exposure, or a gut/intestinal imbalance.
Common complaints from patients suffering from autoimmune disorders that functional medicine can address, include:
- Low energy
- Joint Pain
- Muscle Pain
- Brain Fog
There are so many different symptoms that can overlap with each autoimmune issue. We personalize treatment plans for those patients to help them get better.
Autoimmune Treatment in Conjunction with Other Treatments
Many patients have been previously diagnosed with Lyme disease, and its symptoms can mimic several autoimmune disorders. In any case, we can work with a patient under treatment for Lyme disease, utilizing herbal antibiotics and prescription medications as warranted. However, the key is looking at the patient’s entire chemical and physical makeup. We consider all possible sources of toxicity to ensure that the Lyme treatment is much more effective.
Many of our patients also have Crohn’s disease, thyroid disorders, ulcerative colitis, and autism. We have many tools in our toolbox that can help these patients remediate their symptoms.
The point is finding the root cause of what is ailing you and getting you better. Our goal is to heal disease and promote a healthy life so you can get out of pain and live life to its fullest.
